THE MEANING OF 'TRUSTDI'.

What Does "TrustDi" Stand For?

The name "TrustDi" merges "TRUST" and "DISCUS" symbolizing our commitment to being a trusted source for discus fish enthusiasts. Every time you admire these magnificent creatures, we hope you will remember TrustDi - Discus Fish Hatchery as a symbol of dependability and excellence.

Why is Trust Central to Our Brand?

Trust is the cornerstone of TrustDi for a reason. Throughout our journey, we've faced numerous challenges, such as non-payment frauds, fake orders, and logistical issues that caused both financial losses and harm to our fish. These experiences taught us the invaluable role that trust plays not only in business but in building lasting relationships with our customers.

We’ve seen firsthand how common scams can be in this industry, affecting both buyers and sellers. Likely, you too have heard of or encountered such deceit at least once. This shared understanding deepens our commitment to trust. It's more than a core value; it's a guiding light that directs every decision we make.

What Trust Means to Us?

For TrustDi, trust is more than a principle—it's a promise. We strive tirelessly to earn and maintain your trust, not just through our products but through every interaction.

We believe that buying from us should feel as secure and satisfying as enjoying the serene beauty of your discus fish. It's about more than just transactions; it's about fostering a community built on mutual respect and integrity.

Colorful Discus Fish at TrustDi

Starting simply with passion

The beginning of our business was simpler than you might think. It wasn’t about big farms or experts in white lab coats—it all started with passion.

In the early 2000s, when discus fish were first introduced to Vietnam, we were captivated by their vivid colors and unique personalities. Their calm and graceful nature won us over. At first, we raised them just for the pleasure of watching them, much like many of you who share this hobby.

... But passion alone
is not enough

It wasn’t until 2017 that we began breeding discus on a larger scale for the local market, with over 45 tanks in operation. But breeding discus for business was a whole different challenge compared to raising them as a hobby. At every stage of their growth, we faced numerous obstacles:

  • Pairing the right breeding fish was tricky. Not all males successfully fertilize eggs, and not all discus strains are good at raising their young. Some pairs even eat their own eggs, and because discus fish tend to choose their mates, this sometimes led to aggressive behavior if the pair wasn’t compatible.

  • The early weeks of a discus’s life, especially before they’re four months old, are the most critical. We struggled with high mortality rates, often feeling helpless as fish died in large numbers.

  • Even the fish that made it to adulthood often fell short of market standards. Poor nutrition and inadequate care during their early stages meant many couldn’t be sold locally.

The journey to find solutions

Determined to overcome these challenges, we began observing the fish more closely, tracking disease incubation periods, and identifying potential causes.

We studied academic resources on fish diseases, isolated affected fish, experimented with treatments, and sought advice from aquaculture experts.

Over time, we reduced mass die-offs and improved the overall quality of our fish.

Weathering the storm

By early 2019, we had expanded to 150 tanks and were optimistic about the future. Then, Covid-19 hit, bringing a wave of unexpected challenges.

Social distancing measures drove up our operating costs, putting us under intense financial strain.

Supply chain disruptions forced us to use frozen food as a substitute, leading to a rise in digestive issues among our fish. Meanwhile, our usual suppliers of medicine temporarily halted operations due to government lockdowns.

On top of all this, some customers took advantage of the chaos, scamming us, which made us even more aware of how crucial trust is for both sellers and buyers.

To survive, we had to reduce our staff and downsize. Though the lockdown was challenging, it gave us the opportunity to reflect and identify areas for improvement. After all these difficulties, we learned that prevention is always better than treatment.

Perseverance towards commitment to trust and quality

Through perseverance and adaptability, we’ve continued to make efforts. Every time we stumble, we learn and grow.
